Wife of the Governor of Kogi State, Hajia Sefinat Ododo, made the appeal at a program to mark this year’s International Women’s Day, IWD, with the theme, “Accelerate Action on Gender Parity”, at the Government House, Lokoja.
Hajia Sefinat Ododo who was represented by the wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs Margaret Oyibo, stressed the need for all hands to be on deck to promote gender equality.
The Governor’s Wife maintained that the State Government was committed to ensuring that women have the support and opportunities they needed to succeed in all endeavors.
While acknowledging the strength, resilience, and determination of women in their quest to change negative narratives in the society, Hajia Ododo reaffirmed her dedication towards advancing the cause of women and girls through initiatives that promote education, economic inclusion, social justice, and strengthening advocacy against gender-based violence (GBV) in Kogi State.
The First Lady of Kogi State also
urged women not to allow anything to hold them back, but to stand tall, and take their rightful place in the society.
She applauded the efforts of the wife of the President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, in ensuring that women are empowered.
In an address, the State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Fatima Momoh reiterated the commitment of the Ministry for all women in Kogi State to have access to education.
In a paper titled “Accelerated Action on Gender Parity”, a guest speaker, Mrs Oyiza Sadiq harped on the need to curb Gender-Based Violence, (GBV) through adequate sensitization.
Also, the State Chairperson, International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Oluwakemi Omeiza, who spoke on the topic, “Empowering Women To Know Their Rights”, charged women to acquire skills to be useful and self reliant.
