Hundreds of members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Kebbi State have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in a major political realignment led by a prominent political figure from Suru Local Government Area, Alhaji Lawali Dakingari.
The defectors were formally received by Governor Nasir Idris at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi during an event attended by APC leaders and representatives from all twenty-one local government areas of the state.
Also present were two thousand, two hundred and eight delegates representing all polling units in Suru Local Government Area, underscoring the strong grassroots support behind the defection.
Governor Nasir Idris described the development as a reunion built on shared history, mutual respect, and a collective vision for the progress of Kebbi State.
He praised the leadership qualities of Alhaji Lawali Dakingari and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fairness, justice, and inclusive development across the state.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Alhaji Lawali Dakingari said the decision to join the APC was taken in good faith and without conditions.
He explained that the move was inspired by the political legacy of former Governor Sa’idu Usman Nasamu Dakingari and the leadership style of Governor Nasir Idris, whom he described as just and people-oriented.

In his remarks, the APC State Chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Kana-Zuru, described the defection as a significant boost to the party’s strength and unity.
He urged new members to register and participate actively in voter enrollment, assuring that there would be no discrimination between old and new party members.
