The Armed Forces of Nigeria have confirmed the conclusion of investigations into alleged acts of indiscipline involving 16 military officers, some of whom are accused of plotting to overthrow the government.
In a statement issued in Abuja, the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, said the investigations followed the arrest of the officers announced by Defence Headquarters in October 2025.
According to him, the probes were conducted in line with established military procedures and service regulations, and revealed that several of the officers have cases to answer.
Major General Uba noted that the allegations are inconsistent with the ethics, values, and professional standards of the Armed Forces.
He said affected officers will be arraigned before appropriate military judicial panels in accordance with the Armed Forces Act.
The military spokesperson emphasised that the actions are purely internal disciplinary measures aimed at preserving discipline, cohesion, and operational effectiveness.
He reaffirmed the Armed Forces’ commitment to professionalism, loyalty, and respect for constitutional authority, assuring Nigerians that due process and fairness will be upheld throughout the trials.
