As toll operations on the Keffi-Makurdi highway enter it second day, motorists are urging the federal government to review the payment processes to ease the hardship caused by traffic congestion.
A visit to the Aboshon and Garaku Toll Plazas revealed long queues of vehicles, with drivers waiting for extended periods before being cleared.
Some motorists, in an interview, expressed frustration over the slow pace of electronic payments at the toll gates, calling on the government to consider reintroducing cash payments for smoother operations.
Assistant Plaza Manager at Aboshon Toll Plaza, Mr. Christian Kure, acknowledged the initial delays but noted significant improvements in the electronic payment system.
He explained that many motorists are still unfamiliar with the process, contributing to the slow clearance.
Mr. Kure further stated that the toll payment covers all plazas along the route, urging road users to be patient as the government implements measures to enhance the system.
Meanwhile some motorists and residents of the toll plazas have raised security concerns over the prolonged traffic hold-ups, fearing that criminal elements could exploit the situation to target travelers.
On the other hand, hawkers selling packaged water and beverages are cashing in on the delays, making brisk business at the toll plazas.
