A woman has reportedly died after visiting her boyfriend in the Dei-Dei area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The woman identified as Esther was said to have died on Wednesday, January 21, 2026.
A resident of the area, Dauda, narrated that Esther left her family home that afternoon, informing her sister that she was going to a bank in Dei-Dei.
She, however, failed to return home.
According to him, the woman’s elder brother later received a phone call that night from a man who claimed to be her boyfriend, informing him that Esther had died.
Dauda said the caller explained that Esther visited his residence, where he bought food for her.
He added that the man claimed she started vomiting shortly after eating and was rushed to the Kubwa General Hospital.
“She died while receiving treatment at the hospital,” Dauda said.
He further alleged that since making the call, the supposed boyfriend had switched off his phone, adding that Esther’s phone line was also unreachable.
Dauda noted that the man neither disclosed his name nor his address.
When contacted on Friday, the Federal Capital Territory Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident, stating that the police had commenced an investigation.
