The Kaduna State chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has called for stronger commitment from government, institutions and the public to advance the rights and empowerment of women and girls.
In a statement to mark the 2026 International Women’s Day, the association urged stakeholders to remove barriers that hinder women from achieving their full potential.
The statement, signed by the Chairperson, Sahura Jibril Maidoki, and the Secretary, Hadiza Bello Abdullahi, noted that this year’s theme, “Give to Gain,” highlights the importance of investing in women through opportunities, support and resources.
NAWOJ said empowering women contributes to stronger communities, economic growth and sustainable development.
The association therefore called on policymakers to promote gender-responsive policies that expand women’s access to education, healthcare, economic opportunities and leadership roles.
It also urged the media to promote gender-sensitive reporting while encouraging women to support one another and participate actively in decision-making processes.
