The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, has directed all domestic airlines to include a mandatory special needs assistance option on their ticket reservation platforms.
According to a statement by the Director of Public Affairs, Michael Achimugu, the move ensures passengers with reduced mobility or other disabilities can request assistance when booking tickets online or by phone.
The directive builds on a 2022 guideline and is reinforced by the 2023 Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations, which require airlines and travel operators to actively check if passengers need help at the airport or during flights.
Airlines have been given seven days to comply, with warnings that failure to implement the measure may attract regulatory sanctions.
The NCAA emphasized that the initiative aims to promote safe, inclusive, and accessible air travel for all passengers.
