The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, has accused the All Progressives Congress, APC, of offering financial and political incentives to some of its candidates to defect to the ruling party.
The National Publicity Secretary of the NDC, Osa Director, made the allegation in a statement issued in Abuja.
Director said the party was aware of what he described as attempts by the APC to weaken the NDC by inducing some of its candidates to abandon the party.
He said those who had defected for financial or political gains had demonstrated a lack of commitment to the values and ideology of the NDC.
The NDC spokesman said the party would not be distracted by the defections, describing them as part of what he called the desperate tactics of the ruling party.
He said the party would, in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2026, conduct fresh congresses to elect credible and competent candidates to replace those who had defected in the affected constituencies.
Director urged NDC members, supporters and Nigerians not to be discouraged by the development, saying the party remained focused on its political objectives.
He described the alleged inducement of NDC members as a sign of what he called the APC’s concern over the party’s growing political strength ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The NDC spokesman said the party remained committed to what he described as its mission to provide Nigerians with good governance, security and economic prosperity.
He called on party members to remain united and focused, insisting that the defections would not derail the NDC’s plans for the 2027 elections.
Director reaffirmed the party’s readiness to continue mobilising Nigerians around its political agenda, saying a new Nigeria was possible.
