The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, has denied reports linking its Cross River State Chairman, Goddie Archibong Akpama, to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
This is contained in a statement signed by its Cross River State Chairman, Goddie Akpama, and State Publicity Secretary, Comrade Cletus Amawu, in Abuja.
The statement describes the claim as misleading and demand the immediate correction of an online campaign council directory.
It says its attention was drawn to an online publication on a purported APC Cross River State Campaign Council directory, where an individual identified as “Mr. Goddy Akama” was listed under the Chieftaincy Affairs category.
According to the statement, the person listed is not its chairman, stressing that Akpama is not a member of the APC and has no affiliation with the party’s Cross River State Campaign Council.
The statement also pointed out that the name published in the directory was incorrect, explaining that his correct name is Goddie Archibong Akpama, and not “Goddy Akama.”
The NDC describes the publication as misleading and capable of confusing the public, political stakeholders and journalists about Akpama’s political affiliation.
It says Akpama remains committed to the NDC, where he serves as State Chairman in Cross River State, and is focused on advancing the party’s political objectives.
According to the statement, the party challenges those responsible for compiling, hosting or circulating the directory to explain how Akpama’s name was included and called for its immediate removal and a public clarification.
It also warns against using misinformation to undermine political opponents, saying political disagreements should be addressed through legitimate political engagement rather than misleading claims about individuals’ political affiliations
The party urges members of the public, political stakeholders, journalists and NDC supporters to disregard the online listing as evidence of Akpama’s membership of the APC.
It reiterates that Goddie Archibong Akpama is its Cross River State Chairman and is not a member of the APC or its Cross River State Campaign Council, insisting that the erroneous listing muse corrected without delay.
