The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, says it will contest all elective positions in the 2027 general elections and resist any attempt to manipulate the results.
National Chairman of the party, Senator Cleopas Moses Zuweghe, stated this at a news conference in Abuja
According to Senator Zuweghe the party had candidates for the presidential, senatorial, House of Representatives, governorship and State House of Assembly elections.
He accused the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC,of spreading false information about the NDC’s participation in the elections, insisting that the party was fully prepared for the contest.
The Chairman announced that the party’s National Executive Committee, NEC, would meet on October 20 to ratify key decisions ahead of the elections.
Senator Zuweghe also said the party would inaugurate its Presidential Campaign Council on the same date as part of efforts to strengthen its preparations for the 2027 elections.
“The NDC’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and his running mate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, are expected to play key roles in the campaign council” he added.
According to him Obi and Kwankwaso would nominate key campaign officials, including the Director-General, spokesperson and heads of other departments, in consultation with the party leadership.
He stressed that the campaign council is expected to coordinate mobilisation, public communication and engagement with voters across the country.
On electoral credibility, Zuweghe called on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, security agencies and other stakeholders to ensure that votes were counted and results reflected the wishes of the electorate.
He said the party was identifying members to serve as polling and collation agents to monitor the elections and protect its interests.
The chairman urged security and intelligence agencies to remain neutral and called on President Bola Tinubu to place national stability above personal political interests.
Citing former President Goodluck Jonathan as an example, he urged political leaders to put the country’s interests first.
Zuweghe also warned against the creation of fake support groups allegedly intended to undermine the party.
He thanked young Nigerians and other supporters who had formed groups to support the NDC and its candidates, urging them to remain vigilant.

The Chairman further directed state and local government chairmen to work with candidates and other stakeholders to compile lists of election agents.
He also urged candidates and support groups to avoid internal disagreements and focus on the elections.
Senator Zuweghe maintained that the party would defend its electoral interests within the law before, during and after the elections, expressing confidence in its preparations under the slogan, “Nigeria Must Work Again.”
