Residents of Ndiowu community in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State have appealed to Governor Chukwuma Soludo to issue a certificate of return to Chief Chibuzor Okekeifi as the duly elected traditional ruler of the town.
The appeal was made during a peaceful solidarity march to the Government House in Awka, where the people expressed appreciation to the state government for providing a level playing ground that ensured a free and credible election.
Spokesperson and Chairman of the Ndiowu Elders Council, Chief Christian Nnabuife, commended Governor Soludo for restoring peace in the community and facilitating the successful conduct of the January 12, 2026 election.
He dismissed calls for the annulment of the poll, insisting that the process was guided by the 1990 constitution recognized by the state government and the Aguata High Court.
Other stakeholders, including the Youth Leader, Mr. Sunday Kanu, and a representative of Ndiowu in the Diaspora, Chief Boka Nwajagwu, urged the government to formally recognize the Igwe-elect, stressing that the election outcome reflected the will of the people.
Responding, the Permanent Secretary, Anambra State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Dr. Nwabufor Nwankwo, commended the protesters for their peaceful conduct and assured them that the government would review the submitted documents to ensure lasting peace in the community.
Over 500 residents participated in the march, maintaining that Chief Okekeifi secured 506 valid votes to defeat four other contestants in the election.
