A Niger Delta youth group, Niger Delta Youth for Good Governance, has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to recognise individuals it describes as unsung contributors to peace and development in the region.
In an open letter signed by its National President, Comrade Lucky Ukueku, and National Secretary, Mr Peter Ebi, the group commended the Federal Government for supporting the Niger Delta through appointments, employment opportunities and development initiatives.
However, the group said many grassroots actors who have worked to promote peace, youth engagement and community development without holding political office have been overlooked.
The organisation expressed concern over the exclusion of Dr Eshanekpe Israel Aka Akpodoro, also known as the Mayor of Urhobo Land, from those recognised by the Federal Government, describing him as a strong advocate for peace in the Niger Delta.
According to the group, Dr Akpodoro has invested personal resources in engaging youths and community leaders while mobilising support for the current administration.
The group called on President Tinubu to broaden recognition beyond political office holders, noting that acknowledging positive contributions at all levels would encourage peace-building and development across the region.
