Nigeria and the Republic of Cuba have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing cooperation on regional and global issues.
This was made known during a meeting between the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Dunoma Umar Ahmed, and the Cuban Ambassador to Nigeria, Miriam Morales Palmero, at the Ministry in Abuja.
A statement signed by the Ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, stresses that the meeting provided an opportunity for both countries to review the state of Nigeria–Cuba relations, exchange views on global developments, and reaffirm shared values of peace, multilateralism, and respect for international law.
According to the statement, Ambassador Morales Palmero expresses appreciation to the Nigerian government for its consistent diplomatic support, describing the relationship between both countries as cordial and principled.
It adds that Palmero also briefed the Permanent Secretary on recent developments in Latin America and reaffirmed Cuba’s commitment to peaceful engagement, social development, universal healthcare, free education, and gender inclusion.
The Cuban envoy further disclosed plans for a proposed high-level visit to Nigeria by Cuba’s Vice President, Salvador Valdés Mesa, following the African Union Summit, aimed at strengthening political, economic, and diplomatic ties.
In his response, Ambassador Ahmed reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to peace, security, and the peaceful resolution of disputes, while assuring Cuba of Nigeria’s readiness to deepen cooperation within multilateral frameworks.
Both countries concluded the meeting by reiterating their commitment to sustaining strong bilateral relations and collaboration on issues of regional and global interest.
