In a major operation, Nigerian troops have killed at least 22 fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) during clashes in the Timbuktu Triangle area of Borno State.
The successful operation, carried out by the Nigerian Army’s Special Forces, resulted in the deaths of a senior commander and two unit leaders, with several other fighters wounded.
The military sources revealed that the surviving fighters are believed to be regrouping in forested areas near Bulabulin and Korengelen, with ongoing surveillance and clearance operations aimed at neutralizing the threat.
The military is determined to maintain pressure on the remaining ISWAP elements to restore peace to the region.
Efforts are also being made to confirm the identities of the senior commanders killed in the operation.
The troops are resolute in their commitment to reducing ISWAP’s presence in the North-East and ensuring security for the affected communities.
