At least nine people, including a pregnant woman, have been confirmed dead following a violent clash between pastoralists and farmers in the Farin Dutse community of Nasarawa Local Government Area, Nasarawa State.
A youth leader in the area, Ahmed Hassan, said most of the victims were women and children.
He added that three people sustained injuries, while many residents fled to neighbouring communities and the headquarters of Nasarawa Local Government Area to seek refuge.
“The crisis started as a minor altercation between a herder and a farmer but quickly escalated, leading to the destruction of houses and properties,” Hassan said.
Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, confirmed the incident in a statement but said only six bodies had been recovered so far.
“Security operatives have been deployed to restore calm in the area,” Nansel stated.
The police spokesperson urged residents to embrace dialogue and avoid resorting to violence at the slightest provocation.
