The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory has extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims of the recent massacre in Kwara State.
In a statement, the Chairman of Northern CAN, Rev. Joseph John Hayab, condemned the brutal attack in Kaiama Local Government Area, which resulted in the deaths of more than 75 people, while many others were injured and homes and farmlands were destroyed.
Describing the attack as inhumane and a violation of human dignity, Northern CAN emphasized that such violence goes against the shared values of all Nigerians, regardless of religious affiliation.
The association offered solidarity to the affected Muslim communities and the Kwara State government, expressing deep sympathy with the grieving families.
Northern CAN also commended President Bola Tinubu for the prompt response to the violence, particularly the deployment of an Army battalion under Operation Savannah Shield to counter the assailants.
While acknowledging this intervention, the association called for stronger security measures and greater collaboration between federal and state authorities to prevent further bloodshed and ensure the safety of citizens.
Reaffirming its prayers for the bereaved and the people of Kwara State, Northern CAN urged Nigerians to remain resilient and united in the face of the ongoing security challenges, stressing that peace and stability must remain a priority for all levels of government.
