The Northern Regional Caucus of the House of Representatives has thrown its weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State.
In a statement in Abuja, Chairman of the Caucus, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, states that the president’s decision is timely, and constitutionally appropriate” in addressing the growing insecurity in the state.
Doguwa emphasizes that the caucus will not allow the president’s constitutional emergency declaration to fail, stressing that the opposition is being political about the matter.
“The derailment of law and order in Rivers State will not be taken for granted,” Doguwa said. “We cannot sit back and allow miscreants, hoodlums, and politically motivated thugs to destroy critical national assets at the expense of our national economy.”
The caucus notes that the destruction of critical infrastructure in the oil and gas sector in Rivers State is alarming and requires immediate attention.
The Lawmaker reiterates that the constitutional proclamation in Rivers State must stand, emphasizing that Nigeria’s interests supersede any selfish coalition or conspiracy.
