The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC says it is harnessing its close relationship with the civilian population to strengthen intelligence gathering, enhancing the fight against crime and emerging security threats across the country.
The Commandant General of the NSCDC, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, made this known during the inauguration of the NSCDC Divisional Office in Bwari and the renovated FCT Command Quarter Guard in Abuja.
Dr. Audi emphasized that the corps’ unique operational structure with officers and personnel living among the civilian population rather than in barracks gives them direct access to grassroots intelligence.
According to the Controller General this fosters better interaction with the public and provides credible information crucial to tackling security challenges.
While commending the FCT Commandant, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, for his proactive leadership in repositioning the corps for effective service delivery, Dr. Audi also appreciated the support of the Bwari Area Council Chairman, Mr. John Gabaya, towards enhancing the corps’ operations.
Addressing officers and men of the command, Dr. Audi cautioned against inter-agency rivalry, stressing the importance of collaboration with sister security agencies.
“Do not envy your counterparts in other agencies; instead, learn from their experiences. Synergy is key to our collective success. Uphold the reputation of the corps by maintaining professionalism at all times, accidental discharge or intimidation of civilians will not be tolerated,” he warned.
In his remarks, the FCT Commandant, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, highlighted efforts to expand the corps’ presence across the capital territory, noting that since assuming office, three additional area offices have been established, with plans for more to bring security services closer to the people.
Dr. Odumosu called on traditional rulers, local communities, and political leaders in the FCT to support the NSCDC’s mission, emphasizing that community collaboration is vital to combating insecurity.
The Chairman of Bwari Area Council, Mr. John Gabaya, pledged continued support for security agencies, promising to provide additional logistics to ensure the safety of lives and property in the area.
Other stakeholders who spoke at the event underscored the NSCDC’s commitment to proactive security strategies, community engagement, and inter-agency cooperation to safeguard the nation’s capital and beyond.
