The National Youth Alliance (NYA) has condemned the practice of Nigerian politicians using young people during electioneering and abandoning them once they secure victory.
NYA President, Aliyu Bin Abbas, described this trend as harmful to Nigeria’s democratic growth, calling it unacceptable.
Speaking at the inauguration of the alliance’s state chairmen across the country, Abbas emphasized that many politicians had misled Nigerian youths by exploiting them during elections and neglecting them afterward.
He stressed that the NYA was not a platform for violence, but a movement focused on structure, inclusion, and leadership development.
Abbas urged the newly inaugurated state chairmen to be active leaders, responsible for grassroots transformation and youth engagement in politics and nation-building.
He also highlighted the unveiling of the NYA’s official website and digital portal, which will serve as a hub for youth ideas, policy engagement, and leadership development.
The event also saw goodwill messages from Hajiya Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu and Chief Segun Showunmi, who both urged Nigerian youths to unite and pursue change through collective action, and to position themselves as decision-makers rather than tools in the political process.
