The Ogun State Government has clarified the site for oil exploration in the state, following confusion over earlier reports suggesting Tongeji Island in Ipokia Local Government as the approved location.
The clarification comes after indigenes of Ipokia petitioned Governor Dapo Abiodun over media reports claiming a shift to Eba in Ogun Waterside.
The Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, explained that a press officer had misinterpreted the governor’s statement, and the approved site is actually Eba community in Ogun Waterside, near the Olokola deep seaport.
Akinmade noted that while Tongeji Island also has commercial oil deposits, its offshore location and proximity to the Republic of Benin require substantial infrastructure before exploration can commence.
He appealed to residents of Ipokia to remain calm and assured that the state government will pursue oil exploration projects responsibly.
