At least 13,635 stranded Nigerians have been repatriated from ten countries over the past three years, according to reports from the International Organisation for Migration, the National Emergency Management Agency, and the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission.
The countries include Libya, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Ghana, Niger, Algeria, Chad, Côte d’Ivoire, and Mali.
The highest numbers were repatriated from Libya, Sudan, and Niger.
In 2025 alone, 3,358 Nigerians were returned, while 4,261 and 5,753 were repatriated in 2024 and 2023 respectively.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has warned citizens, especially youths, to be cautious of fraudulent overseas job offers, while the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, urged Nigerians to avoid irregular migration due to its risks to lives and national development.
