Ahead of the 2027 general elections, some prominent members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Zamfara State have defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Among them is Alhaji Bello Mohammed Nakwada, younger brother to the Secretary to the Zamfara State Government.
Nakwada announced his defection, citing alleged high-handedness, unfair treatment, and lack of internal democracy within the PDP in the state.
Also joining the APC is a former PDP chairmanship aspirant for Gusau Local Government Area, Hassan Idris Gusau.
The defectors and their supporters were received in Abuja by the Minister of State for Defence, Dr Bello Mohammed Matawalle.
Speaking at the event, the new APC members commended what they described as unity and internal cohesion within the party, pledging their loyalty and support ahead of future elections.

In his remarks, Dr Matawalle welcomed them into the APC and urged them to mobilise their supporters to participate in the ongoing e-registration exercise to strengthen the party.
