The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described the Senate’s rejection of electronic transmission of election results to the INEC Result Viewing Portal as “shameful and unfortunate,” saying it undermines efforts to strengthen electoral integrity.
Speaking in a statement, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, said the decision reflects a lack of commitment by the National Assembly to ensure transparency and credibility in Nigeria’s electoral process.
He noted that the electronic transmission of votes from polling units would help eliminate widespread practices of result alteration during collation, which often subvert the will of voters.
Comrade Ememobong described the Senate’s action as a setback for democratic consolidation, urging lawmakers to remember that they are delegates of power entrusted to them by the electorate.
The PDP called on the National Assembly to reconsider its position and take urgent steps to approve the amendment allowing electronic transmission of results, stressing that it is widely supported by Nigerians across all 109 Senatorial Districts.
He added that this measure is necessary to safeguard electoral sanctity, restore public confidence, and uphold the principles of democracy.
The party’s statement warned that failure to adopt the technology would continue to allow manipulation of election outcomes against the expressed will of the people.
Comrade Ememobong appealed to all democratically minded citizens to advocate for the immediate reconsideration of the matter.
The PDP reaffirmed its commitment to promoting transparent, credible, and technology-driven elections in Nigeria.
