The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested a suspect for allegedly defrauding 175 job seekers under the guise of securing school feeding jobs for them.
In a statement issued in Birnin Kebbi, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, said preliminary investigations showed that the suspect falsely claimed to have authority to facilitate employment into government-approved primary and secondary schools.
According to the police, the victims were induced to pay thirty thousand naira each as processing fees, leading to a total loss of about five point two million naira.
The command said investigations revealed that no such employment opportunities existed and that the suspect had no authorisation from any government agency to carry out recruitment.
The suspect is currently in police custody as investigations continue, after which he will be charged to court.
The police have warned members of the public to be cautious and avoid falling victim to fraudulent job schemes, reaffirming their commitment to arresting and prosecuting offenders in line with the law.
