The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old woman, Mrs Edeh Osinachi, over allegations of abusing her 17-year-old house help in Awka.
Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Tochukwu Ikenga, said preliminary investigations revealed that officials of the victim’s school noticed severe injuries and raised the alarm.
The victim reportedly told police that she was punished by her guardian for using her phone without permission.
Mr Ikenga explained that the suspect allegedly inflicted the injuries using a hot pressing iron. During police interrogation, Mrs Osinachi reportedly confessed to the act.
The PPRO commended the vigilance of the school authorities and assured that a thorough investigation would be conducted, promising that justice would be served.
He also appealed to parents to ensure they have only the number of children they can adequately care for, to prevent abuse by caregivers.
