The Enugu State Police Command has arrested a 74-year-old Islamic cleric and Director of the Islamic Centre, Uwani, Enugu, Alhaji Musa Ani, alongside the Sarikin Hausawa of Enugu, Alhaji Suleiman Haruna Sule, over an alleged N100 million fraud.
Police sources indicate that the arrests followed a petition by a tenant of the Islamic Centre, who accused the centre’s leadership of financial mismanagement.
Sule was reportedly detained after visiting the State Criminal Investigation Department in connection with the matter.
However, sections of the Muslim community have disputed the allegations, describing the issue as an internal administrative disagreement.
The Civil Rights Realisation and Advancement Network has petitioned the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, urging federal authorities to intervene and ensure due process.
The group argued that the dispute is civil in nature and called for the immediate release of the two leaders.
The police have yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
The case highlights concerns over financial accountability in religious institutions and the need for lawful and transparent dispute resolution mechanisms.
