The Zamfara State Police Command has recovered two thousand five hundred litres of suspected hazardous and poisonous chemicals in Gusau Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, said the chemicals were intercepted by operatives of the Anti-Illegal Mining Unit during a routine patrol at Lalan area of Gusau on Tuesday, January 28, 2026, at about twenty minutes to five in the afternoon.
According to the police, the chemicals were contained in one hundred jerricans of twenty-five litres each and were believed to pose serious risks to public health and the environment if allowed to circulate.
DSP Abubakar said investigations have commenced to identify the source, ownership, and intended use of the chemicals, with a view to arresting and prosecuting those responsible.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Zamfara State Command, CP Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba, urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station, assuring that the Command remains committed to protecting lives and property across the state.
