Electricity supply to Nigeria’s High Commission in Pretoria, South Africa, has been restored after the diplomatic mission settled outstanding utility bills owed to the City of Tshwane.
The power was earlier disconnected as part of the city’s intensified credit-control campaign targeting unpaid municipal accounts.
Executive Mayor of Tshwane, Dr Nasiphi Moya, confirmed the disconnection in a post on social media, stating that the High Commission owed the city for utility services.
Shortly after, the Mayor announced that the mission had honoured its debt, and electricity was subsequently reconnected.
The City of Tshwane says its enforcement drive, known as the #TshwaneYaTima initiative, affects all defaulters, including residents, businesses, government departments and diplomatic missions.
Municipal authorities maintain that the measure is necessary to address revenue shortfalls and ensure continued service delivery.
As of the time of this report, Nigeria’s High Commission has not issued an official statement, but normal operations have resumed following the restoration of power.
