Delta State Chief Judge, Justice Tessy Diai, has rounded off her first quarter custodial centres visit across the state with seven awaiting trial inmates released.
At the Ogwashi Uku Custodial Centre, where five inmates regained freedom, Justice Diai explained that the release of the inmates was done based on the legal advice of the Director of Public Prosecution, Mr. Anthony Orhorhorho, that the inmates had no case to answer.
Out of a total of one hundred and eighty one reviewed inmate cases at the Custodial Centre, Kwale, one person was released after spending reasonable time behind Bars on Arson and Kidnapping charges.
Other custodial centres visited included those of Warri where one person regained freedom, Agbor and Sapele with a total reviewed inmate cases of one thousand, two hundred and twenty eight in the five custodial centres and one remand home.
The Delta Chief Judge, appreciated everyone who participated in the exercise in the state including the Director of Public Prosecution with his team, for their diligence and hard work which resulted in faster and smoother dispensation of Justice in the state.
Justice Diai hinted that the essence of the visit was to ensure that custody cases were going on smoothly in courts.
The released inmates appreciated God and the Chief Judge for setting them free and promised to be of good behaviour at all times.
