The Federal Government says more than 70,000 officers across paramilitary agencies have been promoted in the past three years as part of efforts to improve morale and strengthen internal security operations.
The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, stated this in Abuja while declaring open the 2026 Sectoral Performance Retreat for agencies under the Federal Ministry of Interior.
He said the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu had prioritised personnel welfare through promotions and salary improvements, adding that the 2026 promotion exercise for officers in the paramilitary services had already been approved and would commence between April and May.
The Minister also highlighted recent reforms in the Nigeria Immigration Service, including the inauguration of an Integrated Operating Centre designed to provide real-time information on foreigners who have overstayed their stay in Nigeria.
According to him, the new system strengthens border management and internal security by enabling authorities to track persons of interest and enforce immigration regulations.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo further explained that seven new Forward Operating Bases have been established to enhance migration control and border surveillance, while commending the leadership of the Immigration Service under Kemi Nanna Nandap.
He also called on the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to intensify the protection of critical national assets, including oil pipelines, solid minerals sites, schools and hospitals.
The Minister urged agencies under the Ministry to consolidate ongoing reforms and improve service delivery, noting that effective corrections management, border security and protection of national infrastructure remain key priorities of government.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Magdalene Ajani, said the retreat was convened to review the performance of the Ministry and its agencies, align policies with government priorities and develop a roadmap for improved service delivery.
