The House of Representatives has commenced a public hearing on the Tax Reform Bills.
The Public hearing which brought together stakeholders from various sectors is to enable the stakeholders contribute their inputs to the Proposed Tax Reforms Bills.
Addressing Stakeholders at the public hearing, the Speaker House of Representatives Dr. Tajudeen Abbas explained that the public hearing provides the opportunity for Nigerians to contribute to tax system that would improve the Socio-economic wellbeing of the citizens.
The Speaker represented by the House majority leader, Professor Julius Inhonvbere reiterated that the 10th National Assembly would ensure that the proposed tax reform Bills aligned with the interest of Nigerians.
Dr. Abbas said the proposed tax reform Bills have the prospect of improving the nation’s revenue based, forster enabling environment for investors to thrive in their businesses and simplify tax collections in Nigeria.
Earlier in a welcome remarks, the Chairman House Committee on Finance, Mr. James Faleke, noted that some provisions in the existing tax laws are now outdated hence the need to amend the country’s tax system for desired Socio-economic development.
Mr. Faleke further said the proposed tax reform bills when passed and assented to would help to reduce reliance on borrowing, through effective tax collection.
Stakeholders while presenting their submissions on the proposed bills called on the National Assembly to give priority to the interests of the citizens during the harmonizations of the submissions made by various stakeholders.
