The House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee investigating agricultural subsidies, intervention funds, aids, and grants has summoned the Auditor-General of the Federation, along with the Ministers of Finance and Agriculture, to explain the expenditure of funds released for agricultural programmes between 2015 and 2025.
The summons follows concerns over gaps in accountability records and unsatisfactory documentation presented during a committee hearing at the National Assembly.
The Committee’s Chairman, Mr. Jamo Aminu, expressed dissatisfaction with the Auditor-General’s office for failing to provide audit reports on agricultural subsidy and intervention programmes within the review period.

Mr. Aminu emphasized that the investigation aims to scrutinize public spending in the agricultural sector amid ongoing food insecurity and rising food prices.
The Committee is seeking comprehensive documentation to track the disbursements, utilization, and outcomes of agricultural schemes.
In response, a representative of the Auditor-General, Mohammed Adamu, explained that delays in producing reports were due to the non-availability of key documents from the Federal Ministry of Agriculture.
He also urged the Committee to extend the investigation to include the Ministries of Agriculture and Finance, which oversee the funds.
The Committee has directed the Auditor-General and the relevant Ministers to appear before it on February 3, 2026, and warned that failure to comply would lead to legislative sanctions.
