The Oyigbo High Court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has indefinitely adjourned the impeachment suit filed by Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his Deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu.
The suit challenges the impeachment processes initiated by the Speaker, Martins Amaehwule, 26 other lawmakers, and the House Clerk.
Earlier, the court had restrained the Speaker and lawmakers from sending any impeachment requests to the Chief Judge, and barred the Chief Judge from acting on such documents.
On Friday, counsel to the Speaker and lawmakers, SAN S.I. Ameh, informed the court of an appeal filed and requested that the hearing be halted pending the appeal.
The request was not opposed by the claimants’ counsel.
Following this, Justice Florence Fiberesima adjourned the case sine die to allow the Court of Appeal to determine the matter.
The Rivers State impeachment saga remains on hold, pending the appellate court’s ruling.
