The Acting National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, Dr. Sadiq-Umar Gombe has expressed shock over the demise of renowned Islamic scholar and Supreme Leader of the Tijjaniyyah Movement in Nigeria, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi.
This is contained in a statement signed by the Party’s National Publicity Secretary, Araba Rufus Aiyenigba, in Abuja.
The statement expresses deep sorrow over the loss of the revered cleric while describing Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi as an extraordinary Islamic scholar whose life’s work advanced Islamic education, strengthened peaceful co-existence, and promoted religious harmony across Nigeria.
“For more than seven decades, he devoted himself to Quranic teaching, Tafsir, and moral guidance, earning global recognition as one of the world’s most respected Mufassirins”
It notes that Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi’s teachings, rooted in discipline, piety, and strong Islamic values, won him a massive followership.
“His contributions to community development, youth mentoring, and inter-faith tolerance left a lasting impact on generations”
According to the statement, the late Sheikh, who served as Deputy Chairman of the Fatwa Committee of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, was also known for his devotion to religious obligations—performing Hajj 55 times and Umrah 205 times.
The statement hails his courage in speaking against oppression, corruption, and societal ills, describing him as a peace advocate, patriot, and nation-builder whose legacy will endure.
The SDP extends condolences to his family, the Tijjaniyyah Movement, the governments and people of Bauchi and Gombe States, and the entire Muslim Ummah, praying Allah to grant him Aljannatul Firdaus.
