A security and governance expert, Prof. Okey Ikechukwu, has called for a thorough investigation into statements allegedly made by former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, warning that such remarks could have implications for Nigeria’s national security.
Speaking during an interview on ARISE News, Ikechukwu said claims relating to the alleged monitoring of the National Security Adviser’s communication lines raise serious concerns that require official clarification.
He noted that where sensitive security information is involved, relevant agencies have a responsibility to determine the authenticity of the claims, the extent of any breach, and its potential impact on national security infrastructure.
The professor stressed that while allegations of political persecution may arise in politically sensitive matters, due process must be followed to establish the facts.
According to him, investigative institutions are empowered by law to examine such issues and seek judicial interpretation where necessary.
On the broader question of digital security, Ikechukwu observed that technological systems across the world remain vulnerable despite multi-layered protections, underscoring the need for constant safeguards.
He maintained that any matter touching on national security should be handled strictly within the framework of the law to protect public interest and institutional integrity.
