Senator Shehu Sani has expressed support for the presence of US troops in Nigeria, describing it as a necessary collaboration to tackle terrorism and protect vulnerable communities.
Speaking on The Morning Brief, Sani acknowledged concerns over national sovereignty but emphasised that foreign assistance is crucial in combating terrorist threats that already challenge Nigeria’s security.
He stressed that the fight against insurgency is shared and partnerships with foreign militaries are common worldwide.
The development follows the confirmed arrival of 100 US troops and equipment in Nigeria, aimed at providing specialised technical support.
Defence authorities stated the collaboration is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s capacity to deter attacks and safeguard civilians.
Critics have raised sovereignty concerns, but Sani insisted that coordinated efforts are essential to ensure peace and stability.
