At least six people have died and three others injured in a road accident along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway at the Ilo-Awela Toll Gate area, according to the Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE).
The Ota Divisional Commander of TRACE, Salau Hammed, confirmed that the crash occurred around 9:55 a.m. involving a truck, a tricycle, and other vehicles.
Preliminary reports indicate that the truck lost control due to brake failure, colliding with pedestrians and vehicles.
The fatalities include five males and one female.
The victims’ bodies have been taken to the mortuary at Ifo General Hospital, while the injured are receiving treatment at Ota General Hospital.
TRACE said efforts are ongoing to clear the wreckage from the highway, with personnel and sister agencies deployed to manage traffic and ensure safety.
Authorities have urged motorists to observe speed limits, maintain their vehicles properly, and drive cautiously to prevent further accidents.
