The Southern Kaduna Christian Leaders Association, SKCLA, has declared a two-day fasting and prayer programme following the abduction of over one hundred worshippers in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
According to the association, no fewer than one hundred and sixty-three worshippers were kidnapped from three churches in Kurmin Wali community last Sunday.
In a statement, the Chairman of the association, Apostle Emmanuel Kure, said the fasting and prayer exercise is aimed at seeking divine intervention for the safe return of the abducted worshippers, while also strengthening unity among Christians across denominations.
Beyond the spiritual response, the association called on the Kaduna State Government and security agencies to urgently review and strengthen security measures in Kajuru and other vulnerable communities.
The Christian leaders stressed that repeated kidnappings point to deeper security and governance challenges that require decisive and coordinated action from relevant authorities.
They urged the government at all levels to prioritise the protection of places of worship and rural communities, improve intelligence gathering, and ensure accountability in the fight against criminal elements.
The association also appealed to the public to show solidarity with affected families, noting that sustained insecurity threatens social stability and undermines public confidence.
The two-day fasting is scheduled to begin on Friday and will end with special prayers in churches across Southern Kaduna on Sunday, as calls continue for lasting policy solutions to the region’s security challenges.
