The Sultan of Sokoto Alhaji Saad Abubakar 111 has called on stakeholders in the transport sector to partner the Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC in curbing road crashes.
The Sultan made the call when he hosted theFRSC Corps Marshal, Mallam Shehu Mohammed who was on a visit to his Palace in Sokoto
Alhaji Saad said cases of violation of traffic rules such as overloading, mix loading, dangerous driving and over speeding have become rampant among drivers and worrisome.
Sultan Saad also called for diversification of mode of transportation as an antidote to the enormous loss of lives and properties from crashes rising from high dependence on road instead of using railway as a means of transporting some goods.
He stressed that developing railway system could save many lives as most of the goods being transported through the road could have been done using railway lines.

While congratulating the Corps Marshal on his appointment, the Sultan described it as well deserved, noting that the various steps he has taken so far to address the challenges facing road travels in the country since his assumption of office.
The Sultan, therefore, tasked personnel of the Corps to remain loyal and committed to their duties, saying that will enable the nation to achieve the demands of meeting the target of crash reduction as set by the United Nations through the Decade of Action declarations.
Earlier, the Corps Marshal, Mallam Shehu Mohammed said he was in Sokoto State as part of his familiarization tour to the state and found it most imperative to pay homage to the palace to seek the fatherly support and blessings of the Royal father.
The Corps Marshal further noted that his determination to make the roads safer was in realignment with the renewed hope agenda of the administration of, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu whose development agenda has many road safety elements embedded in them.
The Corps Marshal praised the Sultan for his goodwill and support for the FRSC over the years appealing to him to sustain the solidarity
Corps Mohammed thanked the good people of Sokoto state for the cordial relationship they maintain with FRSC in the state, saying he appreciates the goodwill and will continue to consider the state in infractutural development of the Corps to enhance safety of road travelers in the state.
