There is growing outrage in Donga Local Government Area of Taraba State following an alleged attack on a 17-year-old girl who reportedly rejected the advances of a married man.
The teenager, Iwasen Terhemba, is said to have sustained serious facial injuries after she was allegedly attacked with a razor blade by the wife of the man who had been harassing her.
The incident occurred last weekend at the girl’s residence and has left her with permanent scars and emotional trauma.
According to the victim’s guardian, Jemila Savalla Wanga, the girl had repeatedly resisted the man’s advances, citing her age and his marital status.
Trouble reportedly escalated when the man’s wife became aware of the situation and allegedly turned her anger on the teenager.
The guardian said efforts to resolve the matter peacefully failed, and the situation later degenerated into violence.
She also expressed concern that the suspect is yet to be arrested, despite reports made to security agencies.
The incident has triggered concern among residents, with calls for swift police action to ensure justice and protect the victim and her family, who say they have continued to receive threats.
Meanwhile, the guardian, who is still grieving the loss of her husband, has appealed to the Taraba State Government, the state governor, Dr Agbu Kefas, and humanitarian organisations to assist with the medical treatment and rehabilitation of the injured teenager.
Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the matter as investigations are expected to continue.
