Three persons are feared dead following violence that disrupted the All Progressives Congress (APC) ward congress in Idanre Local Government Area of Ondo State.
Eyewitnesses report that suspected political thugs stormed the venue on Wednesday, firing shots into the air and causing panic among party members and residents.
The disruption reportedly led to multiple injuries and destruction of property.
A vehicle said to belong to a party stalwart was set ablaze during the unrest.
Sources indicate that the attackers are believed to be loyal to members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, although the exact cause of the violence remains unclear.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that one of the casualties may be linked to the family of a prominent APC chieftain in the area.
Efforts to obtain official confirmation from the state Police Command were unsuccessful, as the Police Public Relations Officer had yet to respond at the time of filing this report.
