President Bola Tinubu has announced a major shake-up in the leadership of Nigeria’s Armed Forces as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s national security architecture.
This is contained in a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President, Media & Public Communication, Sunday Dare in Abuja
According to the statement, in the new appointments approved by the President, General Olufemi Oluyede replaces General Christopher Musa as the new Chief of Defence Staff (CDS).
Also appointed are:
Major-General W. Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff,
Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, and
Rear Admiral I. Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff.
Meanwhile, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye retains his position as Chief of Defence Intelligence.
President Tinubu, who serves as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, expressed his profound appreciation to the outgoing service chiefs for their “patriotic service and dedicated leadership” to the nation.
He charged the newly appointed military heads to “justify the confidence reposed in them by enhancing the professionalism, vigilance, and comradeship that define the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
According to the Presidency, all appointments take immediate effect.
