President Bola Tinubu has approved the release of Eighty billion Naira for the immediate rehabilitation and expansion of Alao Dam in Maiduguri, Borno State.
The Minister of Water Resources, Professor Joseph Utsev, stated this in Abuja while briefing newsmen on the development.
He said the Committee on the Evaluation of the Country’s Dams had presented the Interim Report on the Alao Dame to the Federal Executive Council, seeking its ratification of the President’s approval.
Professor Utsev said the Borno State Government was working with the committee to kickstart the project, hoping that the first component of the project would be place before July, this year.
The Minister said the other components of the project would commence by December this year, with a completion period of 24 months.
He said the Committee was working on the reports of the over 36 dams it had so far evaluated, adding that they will be presented to FEC for consideration and approval.
