President Bola Tinubu has returned to Nigeria after spending one full month in Europe.
He departed Nigeria on August 30 for a three-week vacation in Europe.
However, at the end of the three weeks, the president failed to return home, fueling speculations.
Amid the pressure from the opposition regarding the whereabouts of the President, Bayo Onanuga, Presidential spokesman, announced that the President had extended his vacation “by a few days”.
There were reports that he would return to the country by weekend, but the president still did not return.
The African Action Congress (AAC) had filed a suit to challenge the lack of transfer of power to Vice-President Kashim Shettima, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) demanded information on the absence of the President.
Onanuga had maintained that Tinubu was hale and hearty, saying he could govern the country from anywhere in this era of globalisation.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Presidential spokesman said the European vacation had ended and the President was on his way back to Nigeria.
“President Tinubu’s aircraft is expected to touch down at Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos, later this evening,” Onanuga had said
He said Tinubu chose to fly to Lagos first to honour the memory of Chief MKO Abiola, “the martyr of Nigeria’s democratic struggle”.
The presidential plane landed at the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport at about 6pm.
