President Bola Tinubu has nominated Dr. Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of State for Finance, subject to Senate confirmation.
The nomination was conveyed to the Senate in a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Oyedele, who currently chairs the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, replaces Dr. Doris Anite-Uzoka, who has been redeployed to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning as Minister of State.
As head of the tax reform committee inaugurated in August 2023, Oyedele led the development of comprehensive fiscal reforms that consolidated over 60 taxes into fewer than 10 statutes.
The reforms, which took effect on January 1, 2026, introduced measures including zero income tax for low-income earners, tax exemptions for small businesses, and targeted incentives to stimulate employment and agricultural investment.
If confirmed, Oyedele is expected to support the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, in advancing revenue mobilisation, fiscal consolidation and the implementation of ongoing economic reforms.
The Senate is expected to screen the nominee in the coming weeks.
