President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the immediate deployment of an Army battalion to Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State following a deadly attack on Worro community.
The President condemned the incident, describing the attack as barbaric and unacceptable, and assured residents of swift security intervention to safeguard lives and property.
According to a statement, the newly deployed military formation will spearhead Operation Savannah Shield, aimed at strengthening security presence, preventing further incursions and restoring public confidence in the affected communities.
President Tinubu expressed sympathy with the families of victims and the people of Kwara State, noting that the Federal Government remains resolute in confronting terrorism and violent extremism in all parts of the country.
He commended members of the attacked community for resisting attempts at extremist indoctrination, stating that Nigerians must continue to uphold values of peace, tolerance and lawful religious practice.
The President called for closer collaboration between federal and state authorities to provide relief to affected families and ensure that those responsible for the attack are apprehended and prosecuted.
He prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased and extended condolences to the Kwara State Government and bereaved families.
