Troops of the 14 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Ohafia, Abia State, have discovered improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and successfully cleared a criminal camp in Umuchinma Forest, the Army has confirmed.
In a statement, the Army Public Relations Officer, Captain Mazinho Attah, said the operation was part of intensified efforts to curb the activities of proscribed groups, including IPOB/ESN, in the area.
During clearance along the Umuchinma pipeline route, soldiers discovered two IEDs fabricated from 5-kilogram gas cylinders, nails, water-gel explosives, detonators, and electrical cables.

Further search led to the recovery of four empty cartridge cases and two bags of nails.
Credible intelligence provided by a suspect under investigation also enabled troops to clear a camp used by criminal elements, ensuring no civilians were harmed during the operation.

Brigadier General Ahmed Dikko, Commander of 14 Brigade, commended the professionalism and resilience of the troops, noting that the general security situation in the Brigade’s area of responsibility remains calm.
The Army reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining security and protecting lives and property in Abia State and the wider South-East region.
