Two persons have died and ten others injured in a road accident near Toru-Orua community along the Sagbama-Ekeremor road in Bayelsa State.
The accident involved an 18-seater Toyota Hiace bus, carrying mourners to the funeral of the late Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo in Ofoni Community, and a cooling van.
The Commissioner for Health, Professor Seiyefa Brisibe, said Governor Douye Diri has directed that the state government take full responsibility for the medical care of the victims. Emergency medical teams were deployed along the route, providing immediate treatment.
Professor Brisibe clarified that reports claiming ten deaths were false, adding that the ten survivors sustained varying injuries and are now receiving care at Sagbama General Hospital and the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital, Okolobiri. All victims are reported to be stable.
