Two local government areas in Kwara State—Edu and Ifelodun—have imposed 24-hour curfews in their communities as part of measures to tackle banditry and kidnapping.
In Edu LGA, the council chairman, Abdullahi Bello, announced that the curfew affects Gbugbu community, including the popular international market, and took effect from 6 p.m. on Tuesday, January 27.
Similarly, Ifelodun LGA imposed a 24-hour curfew on the entire Oro-ago District, effective from 6 a.m. on Wednesday, January 28, aimed at disrupting terrorist activities and protecting lives and property.
Confirming the developments, the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, told executive members of the NUJ Correspondents’ Chapel that bandits are currently in disarray due to intensified security operations in the affected areas.
Authorities have urged residents to comply with the curfew to ensure their safety and support the ongoing security efforts.
The coordinated security measures are part of the state government’s continued effort to restore peace and normalcy in communities affected by criminal activities.
