Two members of the Volunteer Guards of Nigeria (VGN) have been killed by suspected bandits in Lokoja, Kogi State.
The victims, Abbas Idris and Ibrahim Bello Hussain, were ambushed and killed while on duty on Friday, February 6, 2026.
The incident was confirmed by the Chairman of Lokoja Local Government, Comrade Abdullahi Adamu, who expressed deep sorrow over the loss.
In his statement, Adamu described the killings as a major loss to the community and extended his condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of the fallen officers.
He commended their bravery, noting that their vigilance had significantly improved security in the area.
The local government urged residents to remain alert and continue supporting security efforts, calling on the public to report suspicious activities to authorities.
Adamu also emphasized the need for stronger collaboration between government agencies and community leaders to tackle criminal activities.
To honor the sacrifice of the slain officers, a memorial service will be held, and the local government has pledged support to the families of Abbas and Ibrahim during this challenging time.
